In addition to being an author and screenwriter, J Bartell holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in psychology with specializations in subconscious conditioning, stress management and behavior modification.
J Bartell Therapist
In his mid-thirties, J became the Chief of Staff at one of the largest therapeutic/teaching institutes in the world. He had a full patient load and a waiting list of over 150 people at the institute where he was also teaching nearly all the classes. Additionally, he had a robust schedule for lecturing at universities and outside groups.
Created the “Left-Right Brain Suggestibility” Mental Conditioning Process Model (The Bartell Process)
In the mid-1960s, information surfaced in the news about people who had lost the left or right hemisphere of the brain because of an accident or disease. The patients with only the left hemisphere of the brain displayed different behavior from people who had use of only the right one.
It was back then that J began to theorize that his Left-Right Brain Suggestibility Process (The Bartell Process) was directly associated with left or right brain function. He also found that people had different ways of responding to suggestions and there were other different behavioral traits associated with the two types of suggestibility.
Here are some photos that survived the early years of The Bartell Process being demonstrated to a group of students and therapists. Click on photos to enlarge.
J prepared his face in order to control the pain and bleeding after inserting a hypodermic needle into his face.
J using his process prepares his body to be placed on two chairs with only his heels and the top of his shoulders touching. The combined weight of the two people was over 320 pounds and held for over two minutes while his breathing and heart rate remained normal.
Through the years, J worked with thousands of clients, including physicians, psychologists, marriage counselors, actors, directors, government officials, Olympic athletes, combat vets, and recording artists just to name a few. As you can imagine, with such a wide range of clientele, J has helped people cope with everything from domestic and child-rearing problems, countless phobias, career insecurities, personality disorders, PTSD, elite performance issues and more.
J Bartell Psychological Consultant
J was a psychological consultant for Presidential and Royal Families.
Towards the end of the 1970s, J began traveling abroad to work as a psychological consultant for heads of state and their families. At all times, his clients were friendly with the United States so there was never any conflict of interest in how he handled their concerns which ranged from the mundane, like simply wanting to quit smoking, to more serious family matters.
He was also a psychological consultant and training consultant to Police Officers, F.B.I. agents, Navy SEALs and many others. He studied and practiced acting (under the tutorship of Stella Adler in Hollywood CA), writing and directing as a means to better develop his process for the performance arts.
J Bartell Black Ops
Between the late 1970s and late 80s, J had participated in government special operations (black ops), such as helping a CIA Special Ops undercover asset pass a polygraph and as a courier due to his many travels abroad. In the course of his roughly ten years of work in this field, J experienced many life-threatening events and he was often called upon to use his therapeutic skills to aid both himself and his team members.

J Bartell Peak Performer & World Class Athlete
Not only has J Bartell worked with world-class athletes but he was one himself. He competed in action/combat shooting competitions which required a high degree of eye-hand coordination, speed, agility and focus. Sports performance is one of his specialties. With only part-time participation in this sport, J still placed first or second in 85% of the matches he entered. He was the winner of six championships and held 14 Match records.
J was the Psychological Consultant for members of the United States Gold Shooting Team at the 1984 World Championships. They won!
J Bartell Adjunct Therapy Protocol
J even assisted with a bilateral simple mastectomy as an anesthesiologist.
In the late 70s, J had a very interesting case regarding a woman who decided, after years of soul-searching and discussions with doctors, and after a couple of years of helping him remove a lot of the negativity and pain from his past, to go ahead with the first step of his physical transformation. He was intent on making a transformation. J had set up an appointment with a top-notch surgeon in Beverly Hills. It was J’s first surgery acting as a co-anesthesiologist. His extremely quick recovery using the Bartell Process amazed even his doctors.
J Bartell Graduate of the Lozanov Learning Institute
J is extraordinarily lucky to have studied directly with Psychotherapist Dr. Georgi Lozanov from Bulgaria. Dr. Lozanov is the pioneer of using music to help people learn new subjects such as language. J then incorporated this approach into his own work and process, which combined with Left-Right Brain Suggestibility elevates learning and habit forming/reformation process tremendously.
J Bartell License and Credentials
– California MFCC (Marriage, Family, Child Counselor) License #M15093 (Lic. Retired).
– College Teaching Credentials in Counselor & Instructor of Psychology.
– California Examining Counsel: Examining Board Officer.
– Therapist/Member; American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors & Therapists.
– Counselor-In-Service; Counselors of Alcoholism and Related Dependencies. J enjoyed his connection with this group, having learned a lot about working with people who unfortunately had developed dependencies on drugs, which of course includes alcohol. Other addictions, of course, were part of the mix, such as sex, gambling and even shopping addictions. The group did a lot of great work and made sure that counselors had the education and experience to handle these tough subjects.

Back in his early years, J thought the hypnotists’ union would serve a great purpose. Every once in a while, when they wanted more power or were threatened by the success of hypnotherapists, medical doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists would try to have a law passed which would allow only them to use hypnosis, rather than the people who actually started it, studied it extensively and used it every day in their practices.
J often went to Sacramento as the president of the union and tried to convince members of the legislature to vote against any bill that would limit the use of who could practice as a hypnotherapist. J was one of the first presidents of the union, along with holding other staff positions within it.
